Research

Would you like to know more about something related to education, children or young people? Is there an area of education policy that you would like translating?

Are you curious about how something works within schools?

Do you have a hypothesis that you’d like to test?

Would you like to have a better understanding about the needs, values or motivations of your customers or your audience?

I run research projects for all kinds of clients, on a huge variety of topics, but they all have a central theme of children, young people and education running through them.

I will design the research for you and select the best methods to use to find out the information you need.

I can review existing evidence and I can collect new data.

I will report my findings back to you in the format you need: whether you are after a presentation, an informal document or a published report.

The Wellcome Trust:
the science content in primary school initial teacher training

I investigated the science content within Initial Teacher Training for primary teachers for the Wellcome Trust.

My research compared the science content within the main training routes into primary teaching (BA and BEd, SCITT and PGCE) in England and Wales, combining information from training providers with testimony from qualified teachers.

The Royal Society:
braided careers

I researched and produced a series of case studies for The Royal Society, exploring a model of employing teachers known as ‘braided careers’: reciprocal arrangements that enable an individual to pursue dual (or even multiple) employment opportunities, including a part-time role in teaching.

The Wellcome Trust:
the deployment of science and maths leaders in primary education

I conducted a research study into the deployment of science and maths leaders in primary education for the Wellcome Trust.

My project sought to understand more about how science and maths are led, managed and taught in primary schools in England today and combined data from a quantitative survey, a series of qualitative interviews and a set of case studies.
